Traveling through time to the 21st century, Cain lands in Julianna's home by falling through the roof. Unfortunately, both Julianna and the spell are missing. Instead, Cain is greeted by Julianna's daughter, Gwen.
Cain doesn't remember Gwen, but she knows exactly who he is. Cain had been the love of her life when they both lived in ancient Scotland. She had escaped with Julianna 10 years earlier in order to save Cain's life from Rowena's wrath. Cain had been given an elixir at the time that caused him to forget that Gwen existed. He could remember that he lost his soulmate, but he didn't know why or who she was.
As Gwen and Cain travel back in time to search for Julianna and the immortality spell, the truth of their past relationship comes out. But, this time it isn't Rowena who is standing in their way. The evil that is possessing Cain's body from his many years of practicing black magic is turning him into a demon. If they can't find a way to stop the change, then Cain will be forever lost to darkness.
Complicating matters further, Gwen's father learns of their return. Ramsey is a hateful person, and he goes out of his way to capture and control both of them.
Review: This is my favorite book in the Immortals Series so far. We've seen Cain's progression from good to evil in the first two books, and now we get to see him strive for redemption. Had he not become re-acquainted with Gwen, he may have given into the evil forces that consume him. I liked reading about his battles to keep the evil inside him under control.
Gwen was a likeable character also. She refuses to give up on Cain throughout the entire story because she still believes there is good in him. It reminded me of how Luke Skywalker believed there was good left in Darth Vader throughout the Star Wars movies. Weird comparison? Maybe, but I kept picturing Luke saying "I know there is still good in him, I can FEEL it."
The downside of this book is that it didn't include any of the characters from the previous books other than Cain. That was disappointing. The Immortals had been his brothers for centuries. Even though they knew he was becoming evil, I wanted to see at least one of them come to his side in this book. That never happened. In fact, they weren't even mentioned. Terrible omission in my opinion. And because Cain is mortal from the beginning of the book, there are no immortals at all in a book called Immortal of Darkness.
I keep reading this series because I'm invested. There is one Immortal warrior left, Gideon, and I want to find out what happens to him. But in terms of recommending the series, I'm sticking with the same thing I said after the first book: It's pretty good, but I wouldn't put it at the top of your TBR pile.

it downloaded quickly and I was able to read it within minuets I am very pleased with my order and I love this book
I had read Cain's story first then read the others in sequence then partially reread Cain again...I loved the story line the intertwining of the characters and especially the interaction of Cain and Rowena, she is someone you definately wouldn't want to come across on a dark night.. i thoroughly enjoyed this series and can't wait for Gideons story to come out.
I enjoy this series and am patiently waiting for the next one.
I love this author and her books but I feel I got short changed because there should have been a fourth book and she hasn't put anything out since 2011 very disappointed
Couldn't put this one down! The family ate a lot of fast food cuz I just could not put it down to cook . Be sure to read the whole series.the hero's kick but the the lady's are right by there side.
I do like this series. But with that being said, with this book, I felt like I had missed something along the way. I may just not remember things from the other two books that link this third book. This story kept referring to their past relationship that I had no recollection of. So I thought that I had just forgotten. But in trying to scan through the first 2 books, I cannot find any story that talks about the relationship of Ulrick, Cain and Gwen. Because this book refers so often to that relationship, it definitely makes you think you missed some of the story. I'm thinking that if either of the first 2 books mentioned this relationship, it wasn't that big of a deal. This stayed with through the entire book.....Still, I am waiting for Gideon's story!
I loved the first three!!! Now I need the last one. I t took an instant to download and three days of not putting them down till I was done reading! Loved them all! Now I need ,( Immortal Warrior) the last book of this series! For my !!!
